A newbie in every way, but learning 
At last having found a concrete project to work on (![[WWW]](/wiki//img/moin-www.gif "[WWW]"){kind=small}
http://www.huntingdonhockey.org), with some responsibility attached (a club and press officer friend that wants results), my python skills have jumped from theoretical to practical! Even though I have done more complex things offline, there is nothing like actual users to tighten your work up.
Cornerhost was a boon, the environment given by the shell account letting me work on my laptop with exacly the same setup and the new online MySQL admin proggy has removed the last obstacle to smooth operation.
Now I have to come up with another website to do. Second-hand ideas you have discarded welcome:-
